According to the history of Sri Lanka, King Kashyapa built this lion rock fortress to hide from his brother’s attacks. In the middle of the forest, the ancient rock fortress was created with many layers of obstacles, such as trenches with crocodiles and wasps that the enemies could not enter. Also, there was only one way to go into the fort and above the rock was a palace with a well. After the king’s death, Sigiriya was a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.
